Our Tuesday group took part in a 6 week film making workshop in which they wrote, directed, produced and yes even starred in their very own film. The group chose to depict what Headway Belfast means to them and did this through telling the story of Stephen's first day at Headway.

 

 

Ken's story

I had my assualt in 1994, on the Shankill Road.  I got beaten up.Ken cropped The assault affected my memory, I used to be able to walk but now it is too painful and I need a wheelchair. I was in a coma for 18 months and my heart stopped twice.

Dee's story

In December 2001 I was in a car crash in Belfast and Dee

suffered a brain injury.  I was in a coma for ten and a half weeks spending that time in the Royal Victoria and Foster Green Hospital. 

 

While I was in a coma the  doctors told my mum that if I ever came out of the coma I would be a "vegetable".  The Doctors wanted to turn off my machine but my mum said no.

Michael's story

michael rossI was living in England and going to school and was 11 at the time of my brain injury. I contracted meningitis on the 1 Jan 2000 - it resulted in a bleed in the brain. Unfortunately, it took over a week to diagnose the condition by which time I was brought into hospital very seriously ill and I spent over 2 months in hospital, with 2 weeks of that time being spent in a medically induced coma.

Three of our service users met with young people from the Youth Justice Agency today in an youth justice visit 2emotional and powerful meeting in which they shared their stories and explained how brain injury, resulting from assault, has changed their lives.

Hats off to our politicians

Hats off to our politicians....

Health Minister, Edwin Poots was joined by a whole host of MLAs at Stormont as STORMONT HEADWAY 1 2they donned their best headwear to launch upcoming Action for Brain Injury (ABI) week (14 - 18 May) and to promote our 'hats for Headway' day which takes place on Friday 18 May.  Find out how your school and organisation can get involved.

Oh what a night

Our inaugural gala ball took place on Friday 30 March in the City Hall and what a night it was!  Almost 200 guests attended to enjoy a champagne reception, delicious four course meal and fantastic raffle draw.

Fundraising News

Back to School

It was a case of 'back to school' for us as we were invited along to the assembly of Academy Primary in Saintfield.  academy ps

 

Principal, Mr Moore, along with pupils invited us along to present us with a cheque of £725.00 that the pupils helped to raise through their recent non-uniform day.  Caroline Patterson, friend of Headway Belfast also contributed to the impressive amount from her recent abseil at Victoria Square.

On yer bike!

A massive well done to the Physiotherapy UU physio_students2students at University of Ulster, Jordanstown campus, who earlier this week cycled 480 miles in total to raise money for Headway Belfast.

 

43 students took part in the demanding physical challenge which saw them cycle the equivalent of the circumference of Northern Ireland, and then some!

Chelsea Charity night

A big thank you to Jim Stewart who recently organised a charity night in the La Mon Hotel and Country Club along with ex Chelsea footballer Ron 'Chopper' Harris.jim stewart  Over £400 was raised for Headway Belfast.
