I’m Cliff, my injury is a bit complicated to explain - but I will try. I first started to take fits. No one knew what it was - but when they examined me they found a tumor in my brain behind my left eye. They asked me what I wanted to do and I said I wanted it removed, so they operated and removed it - this was in 1993.
After the operation I still took fits but they stopped about five years ago. Now as a result of the tumor I still have poor sight in my left eye and my left hand side is weak and my memory is badly affected, I can't remember much about things that happened in my past and my short term memory and personality has been altered a bit. I heard about Headway about five or six years ago and I was invited to come by someone else who was going to the group in Lisburn. I was a bit apprehensive about going but now I am here I really enjoy the company of the people. I used to play cards (Jack change it) in Lisburn Headway, which I enjoyed, and I became pretty good at it. Lately I have moved to the the Tuesday group in the Belfast office. I take part in music therapy, which I enjoy, I was handed a tambourine and I play away with it to the music, I find it good fun. I also use the computers to surf the internet and I am learning to use the keyboard and the mouse. Since coming to Headway my confidence has improved and I think the people are fantastic. Tweet |
